11 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Me: Sunshine Blogger Award

11 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Me: Sunshine Blogger Award - Taylor A Mead

As I sit here typing I can't help but wonder if the last few days' April showers downpours will bring May flowers soon (hopefully before May, pretty please!)...

But, through the clouds came a whole lot of sunshine today when I learned my new blogging friend (and fellow Connecticut gal), Ashlen Fulton of The Chic AF, nominated me for the Sunshine Blogger Award.

The Sunshine Blogger Award is a peer recognized award where bloggers nominate other bloggers who inspire them through their continued efforts to shine positivity and light into the world.

Thank you so much, Ashlen for being such a gem! I'm so happy we were able to connect through our blogging journeys! I was truly beaming (not to continue the sunlight puns) when I learned about my nomination and I couldn't wait to lift others up as well!

If I contacted you to let you know I nominated you, I have outlined the rules for accepting your award and how to nominate others below! Have so much fun with it!

Rules for Accepting Award and Nominating Others

1. Show your gratitude! Thank the person who nominated you in a blog post and link to their blog.
2. Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you in their nomination blog post.
3. Nominate (at least) 11 new bloggers to receive the award.
4. Write 11 new questions you would like your nominees to answer.
5. List the rules and display the Sunshine Blogger Award logo in your post/on your blog.
6. Contact your nominees to let them know you nominated them!

My A's to Ashlen's Q's

Q. Why did you start blogging? Is there a story behind the name of your blog?
A. I had always toyed around with the idea of starting a blog, but I never really knew where to start or about what I would write. The whole idea of finding a "niche" confused me and I didn't want to feel pigeon-holed into one category. Then, in 2016 — shortly after graduating from college — it all clicked. I wanted to connect with people who were going through (or who had recently gone through) post-grad life and all the excitement and hardship that comes with finding our way as adults in the "real world" (whatever that means). I found that the people around me weren't really having the hard conversations about the stuff I was feeling and I wanted to change that. Now here we are!

Q. What is one U.S. city on your bucket list? And one international city?
A. Oh it's so hard to choose just one of each! I would say the next U.S. city I hope to check off my bucket list would be San Francisco! I'm dying to go! As far as international cities go, I think I would have to say Sydney, Australia!

Q. Are you a morning person or a night owl?
A. I am 132% a night owl! No matter how hard I try to be a morning person or how early I go to bed, it just doesn't work for me. I find myself so much more productive and calm at weird hours of the night when everyone's asleep and my brain isn't in a million different places!

Q. What is one song you know EVERY WORD to that people wouldn't expect?
A. HAHA! I am actually laughing as I prepare to write this one out because it is just SO random. I know every word to "Super Bass" by Nicki Minaj... Yea...

Q. What are some small things that make your day better?
A. A few small things that always make my day better are: a hot cup of tea (always switching up the flavors depending on the season), going on a walk or playing outside with my two dogs, and/or baking.

Q. What is your proudest accomplishment?
A. I wouldn't have always said this, but recently I have taken a lot of pride in the fact that I allowed myself to carve my own path and gave myself the time to figure things out after my first post-grad job. In the time it took for me to decide to move away from the city and take on various projects and roles, I accomplished so much, learned more than I could ever imagine, and prepared myself for the next steps in my career.

Q. What is your favorite day of the year and why?
A. My favorite day of the year is Christmas! The entire holiday season is filled with such joy and happiness. Even during tough times, people come together around the holidays. I have always loved Christmas, but as I have gotten older, I've really started to appreciate what the season is about and the love and kindness it brings with it. Christmas Day ends up being a culmination of it all. My heart explodes every year on December 25th in the best way.

Q. What is the best book you've ever read?
A. Another tough question! I think my favorite book ever has to be "A Dog's Purpose" by W. Bruce Cameron. I am actually obsessed. Warning: it's a rollercoaster ride! I have never read a book where I could cry and laugh out loud all in one page.

Q. What is something you think everyone should do at least once in their lives?
A. I would say everyone should take up a hobby completely unrelated to what they do on a daily basis, one that is strictly for themselves! This is so vague, but that's purposeful. I think it's really important to have something that gives us joy outside of what we do each day. Especially something we can do independently to make ourselves happy!

Q. What are some of your goals when it comes to blogging/the future?
A. My biggest goal for all of this is simply to make meaningful connections with like-minded people. Blogging, for me, is about using my words and journalism background to connect with people. How can my successes and struggles help others? If I can create content that can touch even one person who is going through something similar OR who likes the same things, I am doing something right.
